Hi OP, before a human comes along, please read below and see if you have any luck with troubleshooting or if your issue is covered by a FAQ. There are plenty of communities you can have a look through that can provide help in this r/homelab, r/TrueNas to name a couple. I’ve set up my own system and have had loads of fun doing it but it has been an arduous journey learning lots of new things and venturing to new IT realms of knowledge (vm’s, containers, advanced networking with vlans and subnets) That is if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty putting the components together and installing/operating some free open source *nix environment (which can mean a lot of command line fidgeting).īut all depends on what you want to get out of your NAS system and what you are ultimately comfortable with, if you want to have the possibility of adding a GPU for hardware decoding or not, future expandability and so on. They’re decent systems but for their price + drives you can build your own setup with more flexibility and for potentially less (at least initial investment). However I’d discourage you of going the synology/qnap route. Although You won’t really need it for your media setup as you’ll be able to run most things on your server and that should handle most of the grunt work. One definitive advantage of usenet is that it’s integrated into sonarr/radarr and forgoes the need for Jackett, one less software package to manage and keep up to date is one less headache in the system. Although usenet is touted as being more reliant than BitTorrent and faster, dunno enough about usenet to make any assertions about this though. Or is it somehow possible to run the combination purely on the NAS? Quite new to this world. Have others found success using NAS as the Plex Media Server, or what are others' workflows with using servers? I was hoping to still do most of the downloading on the Mac, but have completed files moved over to the NAS. ![]() I'm looking to make some relatively significant home theatre/server upgrades some point during the year and am namely eyeing a Mac Mini for permanent workstation + a Synology NAS setup. I recognize that my tech setup right now isn't ideal.BitTorrent, or is this purely dependent on whether or not one has access to the right trackers / pays for usenet? I'm not very familiar with usenet and am quite a bit more in tune with torrent, but it seems like others have found quite an effective workflow using Usenet. Is there a "preferred" download source ie.I have a few questions and am sure these have been asked before, so apologies for the redundancy. I also have my MacBook hardwired (when docked on my desk) to a 8tb external drive (slow, USB 3.0, lol) which serves as the host for most of the video files that have been watched etc due to latency when streaming files hosted on the external via Plex. Sonarr is connected with Plex, which is being used to stream onto the TV in my living room. ![]() In short - I'm using a Sonarr + Jackett + qBitTorrent setup primarily through my 15" MacBook. ![]() Trying to learn the full scope of Sonarr, and it seems like, despite being pretty happy with how far I've gotten on day one, I have a lot to learn.
